How Do You Know If You Are Pregnant Or Not

Among the questions that most women ask is; how do you know whether you are pregnant or not?. However, it is important to know how pregnancy occurs before we can answer this question. Generally, pregnancy occurs when the male sperm fertilizes a woman’s mature egg after sex. Soon after that, the fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterus and so pregnancy begins as the embryo begins to develop.

Because individuals are different, some pregnancy symptoms do not apply to every woman. However, there are those signs that are very common and almost every pregnant woman gets to experience them. One of the signs of pregnancy is a missed period. This is a very good sign to consider and watch for. Nevertheless, you can use several other methods to determine pregnancy. You do not even have to wait until you miss your period. By taking a sample of your early morning urine, you will be able to determine whether you are pregnant or not. Generally, this urine has enough human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) to give you positive results by the first day you miss your period.

It is important to note that, all blood or urine sample tests produce results by determining the amount of hCG in the body. Normally, these tests produce results by using a substance that changes color once it detects hCG. Whereas blood tests can accurately determine the amount of hCG in the blood, urine test only establish whether there is enough hCG in a woman to confirm pregnancy. When hCG level is 5 mlU/L or over during any test, that is sufficient pregnancy confirmation. Latest pregnancy tests kits can determine pregnancy even when hCG levels are below 5 mIU/L. Moreover, by using these sensitive tests, it is possible to test positive within seven days after ovulation. Generally, implantation occurs 7-10 days after ovulation.

Apart from blood and urine sample tests for pregnancy, you can use several other methods to determine whether you are pregnant or not. Among them are food aversions or food cravings. Although this can be due to hormonal imbalance in a woman, it can also determine pregnancy especially if it is alien to you. Other signs include darkening of the areolas, frequent urination, feeling tired, spotting or cramping, elevated basal body temperature, tender swollen breasts accompanied by tingling or sensation, morning sickness, heartburn and constipation among many other symptoms.

Other signs to look for include vomiting and nausea, mood swings and irritability, bloating, achiness and fullness in the abdominal area, nipple enlargement, sensitivity to smell and fatigue.
By fatigue, I do not mean tiredness. There is some difference between the two. You can get tired after a hard day at work and that is normal. When you sleep, you will wake up feeling fresh and replenished.

On the other hand, fatigue has nothing to do with working or exerting yourself physically. It is an unusual body reaction. Neither can resting or sleeping resolve this problem. Therefore, when it comes after unexpectedly, you should be wary of it. In other words, when you notice your body behaving unusually several days or weeks after unprotected sex, you should consider pregnancy test as quickly as possible.
